The Society has a proudly supported members and their dependants with health and welfare services dating back to 1911. Our Welfare Assistance Scheme provides a range of programs designed to ease financial pressures and promote wellbeing.
Available Assistance
Healthy Lifestyles Program
An annual payment to assist members live healthier lives. Application details are provided via email and newsletter when the program opens.
Private Prescription Support
Assistance of up to 50% of approved private prescription costs, to an annual limit of $700 per member. Requests must include an official pharmacist’s receipt.
Medical Condition Support Items
Assistance of up to 50% of the cost for eligible items such as mobility aids, CPAP machines, medical beds, wearable medical monitors, and hearing aids.
- Requires a recommendation letter from a Health Practitioner. (Hearing Aids receipt only)
- Each item category may be claimed once every three years.
- Annual assistance limits: $800 general items/$1,000 for hearing aids
Support for Significant & Multiple Medical Conditions
For members experiencing ongoing costs from complex medical conditions.
- Requires Health Practitioner certification.
- Assistance is at the discretion of the Board.
- Members are encouraged to contact the office for personalised guidance.
Society Scholarships
Annual scholarships for members’ children and grandchildren (under 25):
- $700 for full-time university study
- $350 for TAFE or equivalent (first two years)

Newborn Assistance
Support for members welcoming a new child. Requests must include certified birth certificate.
Funeral Assistance
Financial assistance for funeral costs of deceased members. A certified death certificate is required.
Important Notes
- All assistance is at the discretion of the Board.
- Support cannot be provided where Medicare, DVA, private health funds or any other organisation has contributed.
- Assistance levels may change at any time.
- Expenses must not pre-date membership or be more than 12 months old.
- PBS medications, medical specialist gap payments, and allied health costs (e.g. dentistry, counselling, optometry, physiotherapy, psychology) are not eligible.
